Restorative Dental Care

Pediatric Restorative Dentistry In Austin, TX

At Central Park Pediatric Dentistry, we’re here for all of your child’s dental needs, and that includes restorative dental care. Restorative dental care, or the repairing of your child’s teeth, includes services such as pediatric crowns and tooth-colored fillings. With restorative dental care, our goal is to improve your child’s dental health so they can go back to normal oral functions, such as chewing and speaking, with ease.

Why Does My Child Need Restorative Dental Care?

There are many reasons why your child may need a tooth to be repaired. The most common include:

If your child has a cavity that has been left untreated, unnoticed or that has gotten worse, your child may need to have the tooth repaired. Cavities are areas of tooth decay that are caused by sugars, bacteria or even poor dental hygiene. Cavities can cause worse problems down the road, so it’s important to treat them as soon as possible.

Whether your child has a broken or chipped tooth due to an accident to the face or tooth decay, our goal is to restore your child’s tooth so they can be comfortable and healthy.

Teeth can become damaged due to trauma from sports, falls and even over time from unhealthy behaviors, such as thumbsucking. If your child has a damaged tooth, we are here to repair it and restore your child’s overall dental health.

Our Restorative Dental Care Services

At Central Park Pediatric Dentistry, we are committed to restoring your child’s smile. Our dentists offer two restorative dental care services to help craft your child’s healthy smile. These include:

If your child has cavities, we use fillings to repair the teeth. Tooth-colored fillings are less invasive than traditional metal fillings, which make them an excellent and comfortable option for children. They are also a natural color to blend into your child’s teeth—which means you and your child won’t even notice the fillings are there.

If your child’s tooth has suffered too much damage from either decay or cavities for fillings, pediatric crowns may be the right treatment for them. A pediatric crown is placed over your child’s baby tooth in order to protect it. Depending on the location of the tooth, we will use either a white crown or a silver (stainless steel) crown.

Frequently Asked Questions About Restorative Dental Care

Our dentists and team want the best for your child, and sometimes that means restorative services are the best option for their dental and overall health. Below, we have answered some frequently asked questions about your child’s restorative dentistry care.

Sometimes, yes. If you are concerned about your child’s care, we are happy to discuss it with you. Oftentimes, restorative care becomes necessary if your child has a cavity or damage to a tooth that means it needs to be repaired. Our goal is to make sure your child has a healthy smile for years to come!

Yes! We will always make every effort to ensure your child is as comfortable as possible. Receiving a filling or a crown is not painful, and we use local anesthetics to numb the area. If your child is especially anxious, please make sure to let us know so we can see if we need to take extra measures to help your child be at ease.

The best way to prevent needing fillings or crowns is through preventing cavities. Good dental hygiene is the most important way to prevent cavities. This includes brushing your child’s teeth twice a day for two minutes each time with a fluoride toothpaste, as well as flossing every day. If you need tips and tricks to make brushing easier or more effective for your child, please let us know, and we’d be happy to help! We also recommend making sure your child’s diet is low in sugar.
